I've made some changes to my scanning setup. While I've only just started to play around with rescanning some of the slides that I've scanned already, I think it's safe to say that things are vastly improved. Color quality seems more true to the slide, and sharpness is greater.I'm scanning currently at 1200 dpi, which results in an 80MB file that could be enlarged up to about 22" x 14" at 300 dpi -- which is the generally accepted standard minimum dpi for a print of good quality.
Above is side by side of the new result (left) and old result (right). Same thing with below. Then, the third slide is a rescan of the slide of my father and me that kicked off the blog. I think the improvement is obvious.
Note: in the original post for that slide I titled the blog entry "My father and I," but I think that the correct grammar is actually "my father and me." I remember English class and being told to break it down to figure out the proper pronoun. For example: "It's a slide of me" versus "It's a slide of I." Am I right about that?
